About me

King Fung Tang, MSS, MSS, RCC

Language: English, Cantonese & Mandarin

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (BCACC #18557) based in Richmond, British Columbia. I provide individual counselling and psychotherapy to youth and adults in both in-person and online formats. I work in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, serving clients across British Columbia as well as internationally.

My clinical practice is grounded in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I am particularly interested in the development of the inner world and the therapeutic relationship as a space for transformation. My approach is relational, experiential, and humanistic. Theoretical influences that shape my work include object relations theory, the ideas of Donald Winnicott and Wilfred Bion, self psychology, Jungian theory, and intersubjective approaches. I am also drawn to ontological psychoanalysis and the questions it raises about being, becoming, meaning, and human presence.

I received advanced training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy through the China American Psychoanalytic Alliance (CAPA), and I continue to engage in ongoing study and supervision. My work is oriented toward long-term, in-depth therapy that explores unconscious processes, emotional development, and early relational experiences. I am interested in how people make sense of themselves and their lives—both through what they can speak and what may be expressed indirectly through symptoms, relational patterns, or embodied experience.

My educational background includes two Master’s degrees: one in Counselling Psychology from Hong Kong Shue Yan University and another in Behavioral Health from the University of Hong Kong. I also hold a Bachelor of Psychological Science from the University of Queensland, Australia.

Prior to relocating to Vancouver, I practiced in Hong Kong, where I am a Registered Counselling Psychologist (HKPS #2021-848) and a full member of the Division of Counselling Psychology at the Hong Kong Psychological Society.

With a personal and professional background spanning both Hong Kong and Canada, I bring a culturally informed perspective to my work. I have a particular interest in the psychological experiences of Chinese, Hong Kong, and Canadian-Asian individuals, and in how cultural values—such as familial duty, emotional restraint, hierarchy, and achievement—interact with a person's internal life and emotional struggles.
